An exciting new agreement between the City of Vancouver and CP Rail has secured the Arbutus Corridor railway route for use as a sustainable transportation corridor. The city expects the acquisition to be a boon to Vancouver residents who walk and cycle as well as a valuable tourist attraction. The 9 kilometre route from Milton Street to 1st Ave is already in use as a walking and cycling route, but will be greatly expanded through this new project. CP Rail will begin removing rails and ties from the route this year and the city plans to begin construction of the greenway as soon as possible. The greenway is expected to be complete by 2018 and will allow users to walk or cycle from Marpole in South Vancouver to False Creek.
