The Promising Practices videos found on the Healthy Rural Communities website were the result of the workshops led by Dr. Wayne Caldwell with partnership from Public Health Ontario.
The workshops were information dissemination for the Healthy Rural Communities Toolkit that explored rural health and planning methods to address the growing epidemic of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease in rural communities. The resulting Toolkit identified evidence-informed strategies and models of practice for land use planning policies, procedures and designs for the built environment to improve population health outcomes in rural communities. Beyond the Toolkit, Promising Practice videos allowed the opportunity for workshop attendees to share success stories from their own communities to help spur other successes. Stories were told by individuals ranging from public health practitioners, councillors, and planners while their stories ranged from Age Friendly Communities to Access to Healthy and Local Foods. All the videos showcase a range of methods to build healthier communities.
