2022 PlanH Grant Streams

Community Connectedness Grants

The Community Connectedness funding stream offers approximately 20 grants of up to $5,000 each, as well as support from BC Healthy Communities staff, for projects that foster relationship-building among community members and create long-lasting social networks. This stream includes project proposals which support creating and rebuilding connections in ways which consider the needs of all community members, as well as proposals in which Indigenous and local governments develop strategies and plans to address the mental health implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information on this funding opportunity, visit the Community Connectedness grant page.

Healthy Public Policy Grants

The Healthy Public Policy stream offers approximately 10 grants of up to $15,000 each, as well as support from BC Healthy Communities staff, for projects that seek to develop new or amend existing policy in order to improve the health and well-being of community members. Eligible projects may include policy analysis, public engagement, research, implementation or evaluation. This year for the first time, through a partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH), we are pleased to be able to offer 15 additional grants in the Healthy Public Policy Stream for projects in the VCH region. For more information on this funding opportunity, visit the Healthy Public Policy grant page.

Healthy Community Engagement Grants

Applications no longer being accepted for this grant. The application window closed July 15, 2020. 

Grants of up to $15,000 each plus in-kind supports are available for up to five local governments working with health authorities and other partners to better understand priority areas and local needs and to take action to improve social connectivity in their community or region. Health and Wellness Grant for Indigenous Communities

Applications no longer being accepted for this grant. 

The Health and Wellness Grant for Indigenous Communities were available to BC First Nations Bands, First Nations Tribal Councils, Métis Chartered Communities, and Friendship Centres to support initiatives that enhance or promote community health and wellness. Applications were accepted until November 5, 2018. Visit the grant webpage here to learn more about this grant. We will be announcing the successful recipients soon.  

Creating Healthy Places Grant

Applications no longer being accepted for this grant.

The Creating Healthy Places grant is available to local governments in BC who are collaborating with health authorities and other partners to collectively create the conditions that enable healthy people and healthy places. This opportunity will support communities and regions to take multi-sectoral action to explore, learn, and innovate to enhance the built and natural environments. Community Wellness Strategy Grant

Applications no longer being accepted for this grant.

The Community Wellness Strategy grant is available to local governments in BC who are collaborating with health authorities and other multi-sectoral partners to develop Community Wellness Strategies in their community or region. These strategies, also known as Healthy City/Community Strategies are longterm plans that integrate a number of areas of local public policy, which might include transportation, land use, recreation, and housing. They offer an overarching approach that can help communities transition from reactionary interventions to proactive measures to address health and well-being concerns that impact the community, now and into the future. Past Grant Opportunities:

Active Communities Grants for Local Governments in Island Health and Interior Health Regions

Applications no longer being accepted for this grant.

Active Communities grants have been made available for local governments and their partners in the Island Health Authority and Interior Health Authority regions. Grants of up to $30,000 are being provided to individual communities. Combined grants of up to $100,000 are being awarded to communities that are working together for greater impact in their region. Building Social Connectedness in Communities (Round Four of the HCCBF)

For 2017/18, the HCCBF has a special focus on social connectedness. Socially connected communities support strong citizen engagement and increase the health and well-being of residents. Local governments can play a role in improving social connectedness and helping communities thrive by creating strong social environments and resilient neighbourhoods. For information about this funding click here.

Past Rounds of the Healthy Communities Capacity Building Fund

The PlanH program provides funding to local governments to support learning about the community context for health and well-being, partnership development between sectors, collaborative priority setting for health and well-being in local planning and policy, and innovative action to influence local health outcomes. Applications no longer being accepted for these grants.

Round One (complete)

Round One of the Healthy Communities Capacity Building Fund was launched in March 2013 and provided fundingto complete activities ranging from active transportation planning to community consultation regarding food sustainability.
