Equity in action: How leaders can champion inclusive policymaking

Multiethnic Group of People attend a Seminar

Join BCHC for a webinar designed for local government officials, staff, and regional health authorities on the implementation of an equity lens across all policies, programs and planning processes. Attendees will learn actionable steps and relevant resources that help connect the dots across all public policy at various stages of application.

Takeaways from this Healthy Public Policy event will help with applying an equity lens to a wide range of local activities, including the mandated implementation of municipal accessibility plans. The webinar takes place on November 8, 2023, at 10am PST.

PlanH Delivery Lead Connie Allsopp will introduce the webinar and run through the agenda before handing it over to District of Clearwater Councillor Shelley Sims, who will reflect on how elected officials might champion the application of an equity lens. Sims will also discuss her experience in the first cohort of the PlanH online Equity Curriculum Cohort.

UBC Okanagan Assistant Professors Dr. Sana Shahram and Dr. Katrina Plamondon will present on how applying an equity lens can change our daily work as we strive to advance equity.

The City of Kelowna’s Danielle Noble-Brandt, a manager in Department of Policy & Planning, and Arlene Janousek, a professional planner, will briefly speak on how the application of an equity lens is relevant to community building.

Kelly MacDonald, a community health facilitator at the Interior Health Authority, will address how health authorities can advance this important work.

There will be a 10-15 minute Q&A session before Connie wraps up the webinar.

One Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program credit is available for planners attending the webinar. For more information, see the CPL website.
