As a stakeholder in the tobacco control effort in BC, we would like to invite you to participate in a 90 minute webinar on October 1, 11:00am-12:30pm PDT to review and discuss background materials intended to inform the developing Tobacco Control Strategy.
In June 2014, the InSource Research Group was commissioned by the BC Lung Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Health Authority representatives and other NGOs to facilitate the process and write the BC Tobacco Control Strategy.

Over the summer InSource has been preparing a ‘landscape’ document with information about tobacco use and the tobacco control environment in BC, and a best practices/evidence-based document on tobacco control from Canadian and International evidence. To augment this work, key informant interviews have been conducted with 10 people and the same questions were sent to an additional 17 key stakeholders who were requested to provide written responses.
An annotated outline for a tobacco control strategy is also being developed based on these two background documents. The outline will be further informed and refined into a strategy through the engagement of a broad set of stakeholders including a webinar on October 1st, a workshop in October and a validation survey in November to ensure the final strategy reflects informants’ contributions. The webinar and survey are open to all tobacco control stakeholders in the province. The workshop is by invitation to a diverse group of some of the key tobacco stakeholders throughout the province.
The goal is to have the five-year tobacco control strategy for BC completed in early 2015.
