Community can mean different things on different scales, and at one of the smallest units of “community” are neighbourhoods and their residents. People support what they create and it’s essential to engage with everyone who is affected by an issue.
The Province, in partnership with BC Healthy Communities Society, has selected 11 schools to participate in a pilot project designed to increase the number of students using active transportation between home and school.
Though inequities existed in our communities prior to COVID-19, current challenges have amplified these differences. How can we put equity into action to create greater well-being for all community members?
In Age-friendly Communities, the goal is to create a community in which older adults are able to age healthily in place and participate fully in their community. Being part of one’s community provides a sense of belonging, fostering social connectedness.
The people doing the labour of growing our food aren’t just farm owners, but also farmers from outside of Canada. These people are part of a Federal Government program known as SAWP. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how important these workers are for Canada’s food system, while simultaneously exposing many of the challenges they face.
