A message from our partners at the Ministry of Health: Food bank donations are low

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, our partners at the Ministry of Health have asked us to share the following message regarding food banks in B.C.:

We are asking government, businesses, corporations and individuals to please remember that at this time, food banks are an Essential Service.  If any of our food banks are forced to close their doors, vulnerable people in the community will have little access to food.

Donations can be made directly to local food banks. They will welcome gifts of food, money or volunteers. People may connect with their local food bank through our Find a Food Bank feature on our website and we encourage them to contact them directly to find out their specific need at this time.

Larger or corporate donations of food can be shared through our Food Banks BC HUBs located in Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Prince George and Kamloops. Each of these can then share with smaller food banks in their area. Please call Food Banks BC directly at 604-498-1798 and we will make the needed arrangements.

Financial donations can be made through the Food Banks BC website. We will triage the need throughout BC and ensure they receive funds immediately so that food may be purchased and shared.

Most requested food bank items

  • Pasta (canned or dry) and pasta sauces
  • Canned and frozen meats and fish

  • Canned goods (beans, soups, and stews)
