Hear the results from an engaging workshop series that aims to identify the affordable housing issues and capacity needs of small communities in B.C. This research focuses on forums, surveys and interviews with local governments, developers, builders and non-profit organizations, to better understand the issues from each perspective and to create a scan of leading practices. Learn about proven strategies in building affordable housing, and how to co-develop specific tools that will translate to more homes on the ground.

Cheeying Ho

B.Sc, M.Ed, is the Executive Director of the Whistler Centre for Sustainability and has over 20 years of experience in community planning, engagement and sustainability.

Prior to her role at the Centre, Cheeying was the Executive Director of Smart Growth B.C. where she worked to advance sustainable land use and development.

The concept of ‘smart growth’ is now part of typical planning practices in B.C. thanks to the work of Smart Growth B.C. Cheeying has served as a member on the Prime Minister’s External Advisory Committee on Cities and Communities, as a member of the Mayor of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Team, and is currently an Associate with the SFU Centre for Dialogue.

Dan Wilson

B.Comm, M.Sc, is a Sustainability Planning Specialist at the Whistler Centre for Sustainability. He specializes in community and neighbourhood planning, engagement, monitoring and evaluation systems. He is also responsible for developing community energy and GHG reduction plans and programs.

Dan works closely with municipal governments in tourism-based communities, to help them develop master plans and to evaluate development through the lens of sustainability.
